Ori-Udon @ the gardens

having saw a picture of this on instagram, decided to try out this place. its the simple meal kind. i ordered the seaweed udon and i think i added an egg. everything was simple. i can imagine it being very satisfying on a cold day-like a porridge kind of thing. i guess i would say its good and cheap. less than 10 bucks for a meal. its not spectacular. because eveything was just so simple. but i think its the simpliicity that makes this a good dish. its not something id rave about, but if i want something simple, i'd be back.

marutama ramen @ empire

i was previously on a burger craze, then came the chocolate craze, and then the popiah craze and my latest is the ramen craze.

often people compare ippudo ramen and marutama, their both good, in different ways i guess.

i ordered the bowl of chicken soup, with chicken meatball, and 7 groundnuts, spring onions, and mildly spicy. the soup was good, the noodles was good, but i personally liked ippudo more. i couldn't pin point on anything that was bad i guess ipudo had lots of chilli oil, making the soup very fragrant and the noodles texture was more to my liking. i absolutely loved the hard noodles texture.the chicken meatballs were super fatty. you could bite into pieces of hard fat. i guess i didn't like that. i prefer the fat blended well with the meat.

but one thing i really liked is the abundance of spring onions and the fried garlic that you could add into the soup. the egg was also a plus point because it was really well-seasoned.

all in all, although i prefer ippudo's noodles, i think that the soup in both places are different. they are both good in different ways although i prefer ippudo's kick.

my food buddies that day, vivian and kc obviously enjoyed their meal. they even ordered additional noodles. but then again, it might be because they were just hungry.

can't wait for my next ramen adventure.

ippudo ramen @ gardens

hany has been telling me about this ramen shop one too many times. so i decided its time to broaden my food tasting horizon and give this a try. its about time anyways. no regrets here.

they serve appetizers, buns, rice and ramens. but what they are well known for is their ramen. you can select how you want your noodles cooked-from hard, to soft to very soft. i like mine hard. and it was really good. i would definitely recommend you to go for hard. i went for the karaka-men tamago which is the ramen, with pork belly, ground pork, spicy miso paste which translates to chilli oil, and ground pork with cashew nuts. this was so good. i whacked the whole thing i kid you not. i had the ones with egg which was a soft boilt salted egg. i liked it. the noodles, the soup, everything.

i personally like how it came with sesame and chilli powder which u could add to give it more kick.
yen ordered the normal one-which is shiromaru tamago. i think i preferred the chilli one.

this place has gotten me into ramen. am planning to tryout other ramen stores to compare. but for now, i like this one alot. this is the from ny. m planning to try the one from japan one soon. look at how i whacked everything.

sakae sushi @ sunway pyramid

finally a day whereby the angster could spare some time for me. im such a movie sucker so we went to catch thor 2. a tad bit late in comparison with the rest of my friends, but i quite liked the movie. tbh i have not even watched thor 1, so i was quite clueless in the beginning but it was quite comedic. i found loki turning into captain america absolutely hilarious.

despite snacking on prawn crackers and potato crisp throughout the movie, we were still hungry, well i dont know about the angster but i was. we hit sakae sushi for some japanese. well, i had to order my fav soft shell crab maki which to me is really good. 7.90, filled with vege and softshell crab, i like it.

my other default order is the seaweed. it is topped with seasame dressing-similar to the one i have in sushi tei. its pricey though for seaweed, 6 ringgit, but, its something i still order despite the price.

we had some sushi but i thought the rice was too sticky and i didn't quite like it. because we had the sakae card, we got one of the soft shell crab sushi, initially priced at 6 ringgit, for 1 ringgit. also i had the deep fried scallops and the angster also had the chicken katsu curry. the service however was quite bad. the waiter refused my request for more sauce on the chicken katsu curry. i went into a being a difficult customer phase and he just took the bowl and walked away to add just a little more sauce to the rice.

but i come for the food, not the service.

looking forward to spending time w yen later in the night.

sushi tei @ midvalley/gardens

today for me was such a foodie day. i woke up with chocolate cravings like no tomorrow. i had all things chocolate. chocolate chip cookies. ferrero rocher. chocolate coated nuts. milo. and i had my normal toast too. i had way too much and was super stuffed. so i skipped lunch. just cuz i really could not fit anything in my tummy.

but i compensated with 2 dinners. my grandmother was super semangat-ed to cook dinner tonight, and though i had dinner plans with lynn, i decided to have my dinner at home first. she steamed fish, made deepfried pork, and vege with prawns, oh and white fungus soup.

okay on, to sushi tei. since i was already half full, i didn't order much. i ordered the unagi with egg and arrow roots, served on a hot plate. my default order when i come to sushi tei. if you don't know wad im talking about, look at the pic below. i thought the portion was a little small though. there was a mere 4 small pieces of unagi. for 20 bucks, i expected more.

lynn ordered a salad to share. and i realized i really liked the seaweed topping so i ordered an additional bowl of wakame seaweed. super yummy. i haven't had these since london. in london, i used to go to this shop called tombo just for their seaweed. if you have not had these, trust me, it will make your world go round. i whacked the seaweed in minutes after it was served.
