happy chinese new year

the foodie will like to wish all the chinese a very happy horse year ahead. gong hey fatt choy=] hope ur cny was as eventful as mine.

too full though. i've been eating non-stop from morning till night. all the cookies, too drink, to 31 per cent of baskins, to magnum almond ice cream (which is the best), to curry lamb, to cheesecakes, to curry chicken, to yeesang, one word-wow.

anyways, i have exactly 8 days starting tomorow, to get fit and run 22km. u know wad, diet starts tomorrow, and i mean it. i am not an advocate of dieting because, i'm such a foodie, but i'm a runner, which sometimes, for the sake of my run, i need to sacrifice a little. i mean hopefully 8 days will make a difference.

Ori-Udon @ the gardens

having saw a picture of this on instagram, decided to try out this place. its the simple meal kind. i ordered the seaweed udon and i think i added an egg. everything was simple. i can imagine it being very satisfying on a cold day-like a porridge kind of thing. i guess i would say its good and cheap. less than 10 bucks for a meal. its not spectacular. because eveything was just so simple. but i think its the simpliicity that makes this a good dish. its not something id rave about, but if i want something simple, i'd be back.

garage 51 @ sunway (volume 2)

it does seem like garage 51 is my new hangout place right. i've been here 3 times in less than 2 weeks already. but its cuz i really like the mochatella and its the nearest coffeee place, to my place tht is-subang.

mochatella-needs no introduction. this is like my default drink whenever i come here. click here to read about my raving mochatella review. i came back twice for it already. the taste, and everything iss just perfection. and im not even a mocha fan. but this-caught me off guard.

previously, during the weekend, i ordered the garage awesome bfast as well, and i loved it. but this time, i still liked it but i thought the food was cold. it should have came warm, like the last time. so this time for me, the food was slightly disappointing. flavour was there, but the potato would have been perfect served hot.

i am on a quest to find the best cheesecake in town. so i ordered a slice of  new york cheesecake. intially wanted to try the marble cheese but they were out. the cake, was not good. the cheese was too strong, signifying that the cream cheese was not whipped long enouhg. the cake was too hard to be a cheese cake. it was more like-just cheese with a biscuit layer. the biscuit layer was quite good though. all in all, not something i would order again. my food buddy for the day was mukhris. he ordered a toramissu which he thought was pretty decent.

mr and ms cafe @ oasis damansara

as we all know by now, i'm a huge sucker for english bfasts/brunches. we hit mr and ms cafe that day. it was such a food day. gosh. i was deciding between eggs atlantic-my norm or the breakfast set which consists of mini pancakes, granola, and a fruit salad. but yen made a point, saying i wont taste their cooking, which sway me in the eggs atlantic direction.

the special thing about their eggs atlantic was that they had asparagus. the wholemeal bread was different than the others with plenty of butter. but for some reason, i just thought it was okay. the asparagus was too old hence very fibrous .eggs however were perfectly poached. and smoked salmon was okay too. but just okay, for me.

yenny ordered the baked eggs, with chicken sausages. she said it was like a mountain of sausages, with cheese, and eggs. personally, i liked it alot. yen couldn't finish it, so i wiped it clean for her. smiles.

all in all, better than the good batch, but nowhere near antipodean. downside, is also that, they dont open at night. im a breakfast for dinner person too.

was such a fat food day that day. we went for crepes and ice cream after. but reviews for that, later. got to run.

porridge time/feng yi zhuk sek @ sunway pyramid

i'm a sucker for good porridge. was in sunway the other day and was quite indesicive as to what to eat for lunch, so settled for a some porridge. well more of because we were standing right in front of the shop, rather than anything else. i've always been a sucker for claypots. for some reason, i think that anything served out of a claypot just tastes better. i think its more of a visual satisfaction though. so i guess i quite like the whole claypot concept.

i ordered a bowl of lin chi kang-iced. and my food buddy ordered a ginger sweet potato-hot. the lin chi kang, was really bad on so many levels. i would not advise to order this-ever. the sweet potato on the other hand, was really good. i personally liked it alot. i almost ended up finishing my buddy's drink. the ginger, the hotness, the sweetness was good.

i ordered a fish porridge. with a you tiao. the porride was okay. so-so. i added slated egg. the consistency of the porridge is of the thick kind-so its the kind that i like. there was fish. but i mean its good porridge but not great porridge. the plus side is that you can ask for extra ginger and spring onions, and they'll give you a huge plate. nothing impressive.
the buddy had the oyster peanut porridge. this porridge was more fragrant than my fish porridge. i ended up having a bowl of this in addition to my fish porridge and i wiped this claypot clean. it was fragrant and good.

but this place, still does not top my best porridge list. i still love the porridge in usj 16's weng soon jaya. its a kopitiam and u need to wait quite a bit for the aunty to cook up your porridge, but its good. real good. still my fav porridge place, after trying out quite a few.

but i guess if you are in a shopping mall, craving porrridge, this place will do. i mean its half the price as canton-i and does the same job honestly.

the good batch @ damnasara uptown

one of my best friends came down from malacca. he has never had brunch before, so i decided to bring him to the good batch. i've been wanting to try this place as well because of the cool names and good things ive heard about it. they call their food, the norwegian, or the malaysian and things like that. i had trouble deciding between the norwegian which is basically like eggs atlantic but with capsicum and onion jam or the portobello road which is basically eggs benndict but in place of bacon, a deep fried portobello mushroom.

in the end, we decided on, ordering both to share. for the drink i had their signature iced tea, which was something like lemon grass with tea and passionfruit. i wanted something really refreshing because i had a really heavy breakfast. i had too much. for bfast. i regretted it though because, i was gong to have an early lunch. hence i opted for something more refreshing rather than trying out their coffee.
this was their deepfried portobello eggs. perfectly poached eggs seated on portobello mushrooms, deepfried to perfection. with a huge slice of tomatoes. i didn't like this though. i liked the mushrooms. but i didn't like the huge slice of tomatoes. it was too thick. the mushroom and eggs were good but the whole combination wasn't very good.
the norwegian, or more commonly known as the atlantic. smoked salmon was good. but the bread was not toasted. i didn't like that.

ihonestly i was disappointed. because i'm a subang girl, and rarely go to damansara, i'd much rather go to village nasi lemak if i were to venture off so far. by far my brunch rankings are still antipodean, followed by garage 51. then, red bean bag. maybe nutmeg, and lastly this place.

not a fan.

ikea restaurant @ ikea

so there was this period of time, when i was super-duper busy with revamping my room. i needed to get some storage stuffs do i hit ikea, second time in less than 48 hours, i kid you not.

i've never tried ikea's food before, despite all the big hoo-hah about their meatballs, their cakes and all. but yeps, never. the angster brought me to ikea, and thought we should try the food there.

thing is, i don't eat beef. i'm no beef-eater. so i couldn't try their legendary meatballs. the angster ordered 5 meatballs and mash potato. he didn't like the mash potato and he thought that the cranberry jam was too sweet. but he hates sweet things. and fat things. so his opinion counts little. if you can sell something as healthy, he'd praise it. if not, yea it will suck. any unhealthy element, like fat in minced meat, or sugar in chocolates, he will say they suck.

i ordered the salmon, with 2 potato patties. the poached salmon was overcooked. i think once you've had the amazing salmon of fresco, the bar is set so high that any other just fades in comparison. the potato was cold. but i was so hungry i managed to finish one.

personally, i thought that the food wasn't that good and with the que, i don't think its somewhere i'll visit often. id much rather walk over to the curve or ikano. big name, but disappointing food.

garage 51 @ sunway

there's a new coffee place in subang. by that i mean-the big coffee place we know-artisan roast, ministry of coffee, coffee stain, are all down town. for us subang-ians, its pretty far, and more so for someone like me who doesn't like driving far and getting stuck in jams. located in sunway, id say its a pretty good location for subang-ians.

upon walking in, i was surprised by the amount of people. it was packed. i went for dinner about 645 ish. the only thing i didn't really like about the setup was that the tables were pretty close together. our next table had this real bitch, who couldn't stop eavesdropping, and talking about us-which we could hear because of the proximity of our table. i guess that is one bad thing.

i wanted to order almost everything. but i settles for the garage awesome breakfast which was mushrooms, a huge potato hash, smoked salmon, a poached egg, topped with hollaindase sauce. i loved the potato hash, which was exactly like a potato rosti. it was a huge piece. this dish is not for the diet-conscious. deep-fried potato hash and hollandaise sauce makes this a very fat dish. but good. i absolutely loved the rosti. the texture was oh-so-good. i would definitely recommend this. the star of the day. this was 19 bucks.
look at my beautiful mess.

yennyy ordered the smoked salmon aglio olio, which was the other dish i was contemplating on ordering. i personally didn't like it as much because i felt like it didn't have sufficient spice to oomph it. it was a big portion, but, not to my liking. smoked salmon was plentiful, but the spaghetti itself was a tad bit too soft, no texture, and taste wise, i still prefer the aglio olio in upstairs cafe.

i ordered a hazelnut iced latte to go with my meal whereas yen ordered the long black. this really is very different-the coffee. but i still prefer the one i had at the lighthouse in penang. this was a tad bit too strong of coffee and not enough of hazelnut in it.
we also tried this, mochatella, which was so so good. its basically, nutella, with coffee ice cubes and milk. i absolutely loved the bitter-sweet. and the aftertaste was so good. 14,90  and u get a sip of heaven.

i would definitely visit this place again. one good place.

marutama ramen @ empire

i was previously on a burger craze, then came the chocolate craze, and then the popiah craze and my latest is the ramen craze.

often people compare ippudo ramen and marutama, their both good, in different ways i guess.

i ordered the bowl of chicken soup, with chicken meatball, and 7 groundnuts, spring onions, and mildly spicy. the soup was good, the noodles was good, but i personally liked ippudo more. i couldn't pin point on anything that was bad i guess ipudo had lots of chilli oil, making the soup very fragrant and the noodles texture was more to my liking. i absolutely loved the hard noodles texture.the chicken meatballs were super fatty. you could bite into pieces of hard fat. i guess i didn't like that. i prefer the fat blended well with the meat.

but one thing i really liked is the abundance of spring onions and the fried garlic that you could add into the soup. the egg was also a plus point because it was really well-seasoned.

all in all, although i prefer ippudo's noodles, i think that the soup in both places are different. they are both good in different ways although i prefer ippudo's kick.

my food buddies that day, vivian and kc obviously enjoyed their meal. they even ordered additional noodles. but then again, it might be because they were just hungry.

can't wait for my next ramen adventure.

ippudo ramen @ gardens

hany has been telling me about this ramen shop one too many times. so i decided its time to broaden my food tasting horizon and give this a try. its about time anyways. no regrets here.

they serve appetizers, buns, rice and ramens. but what they are well known for is their ramen. you can select how you want your noodles cooked-from hard, to soft to very soft. i like mine hard. and it was really good. i would definitely recommend you to go for hard. i went for the karaka-men tamago which is the ramen, with pork belly, ground pork, spicy miso paste which translates to chilli oil, and ground pork with cashew nuts. this was so good. i whacked the whole thing i kid you not. i had the ones with egg which was a soft boilt salted egg. i liked it. the noodles, the soup, everything.

i personally like how it came with sesame and chilli powder which u could add to give it more kick.
yen ordered the normal one-which is shiromaru tamago. i think i preferred the chilli one.

this place has gotten me into ramen. am planning to tryout other ramen stores to compare. but for now, i like this one alot. this is the from ny. m planning to try the one from japan one soon. look at how i whacked everything.

new year dinner, chutney mary @ bangsar

initially, i wanted to bring the angster to antipodean for dinner. i am in love with antipodean. unfortunately, it was closed because we arrived at 745, and last order was at that time.

so the angster, who missed chutney mary, brought me there. its basically north indian cuisine, sophisticated.

so for our starter, we had the papadam, which came with chutney and mint sauce. i personally really liked the chutney. the mint sauce was so-so and i felt like the color was a tad too artificial. but the papadam was yummy.

we also ordered a grilled cottage cheese, with grilled paprika, tomatoes and onions. its like kebab but cheese kebab. oh this was filling, but good. i really liked this one. i have to say it was pretty addictive.

for our main we ordered one meat and a vege dish. we ordered the lamb curry with spices, and a cheese spinach, with american corn and mushrooms. we ordered a garlic naan to go with this. the angster really liked the lamb. he praised it non stop. even the next day, he out of nowhere went, the lamb was so good. i personally thought the lamb was cooked to perfection-super tender, the curry was perfect-o, but there was this really strong lamb smell. u could taste it from the curry itself. so i guess people who are afraid of the smell might not like this dish too much.

the vege was super filling. because it had cheese in it. but you wouldn't really taste much of the cheese. it was really good. this was the dish that i kept going, its so good. every mouthful, you could taste chopped fine ginger and onions. it was good.

for drinks, i tried this indian spice drink, which i thought was so-so. but not worth the 10 bucks. it supposed to be appetizing, or something like that, but i'd drink it, but i would not crave for or say i want that. the angster orderd a sweet lassi. he wanted to be adventurous and try the salty lassi, but i didn't want to chance it. i liked the lassi. i absolutely loved the

and happy new years everyone. hope everyone started their new year with a big bang.
